Meet the Artist

Carlos “Space” Diaz de Arce is a South Florida–based visual artist, curator, and cultural producer serving as Founder and Artistic Director of Garden of Art 2024. In this role, he is responsible for the overall creative vision, artist selection, programming design, partnerships, budget oversight, and execution of the event.

With over a decade of experience in visual art and community-centered creative programming, Carlos has developed and led numerous public art projects, exhibitions, live art activations, and multidisciplinary events throughout Broward County and South Florida. His work centers on accessibility, sustainability, and meaningful community engagement, often integrating nature-based materials, interactive elements, and collaborative art-making.

A core component of Carlos’s practice is artist development and mentorship. He actively supports participating artists by teaching foundational skills, introducing new techniques, and encouraging experimentation beyond perceived limitations. Through hands-on guidance and constructive feedback, Carlos helps artists push their creative boundaries and realize work they may not have previously thought possible.

In addition to technical mentorship, Carlos works closely with artists to help them identify goals aligned with their individual artistic paths. He regularly provides guidance on career direction, project selection, and presentation strategies, supporting artists in building sustainable and authentic creative practices.

Carlos is the founder of The Space Monkies, an arts initiative focused on immersive visual storytelling and public art experiences, and the creator of Garden of Art, a bi-yearly outdoor gallery and community arts event designed to connect people through creativity, environmental awareness, and shared cultural experience. Through these platforms, he has collaborated with local artists, cultural organizations, venues, and community partners to produce inclusive events that elevate diverse voices.

As Artistic Director, Carlos oversees curatorial direction, coordinates participating artists, and ensures alignment between artistic programming and the festival’s mission. His leadership reflects a commitment to nurturing local talent, expanding artistic capacity, and strengthening the creative ecosystem of Broward County.
